The London Howlin’ Wolf Sessions is a landmark blues album that brought together Chicago blues legend Howlin’ Wolf with a powerhouse lineup of British rock royalty. Recorded in May 1970 at Olympic Studios in London and released in 1971 by Chess Records, the album features collaborations with Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Charlie Watts, and Bill Wyman, among others.

🧨 What Makes It Special:

  • One of the first “super session” blues albums, bridging generations and continents
  • Features Wolf’s raw vocals and harmonica alongside Clapton’s fiery guitar and Winwood’s soulful keys
  • Includes standout tracks like “Rockin’ Daddy,” “I Ain’t Superstitious,” “Sittin’ On Top of the World,” and “Wang Dang Doodle”
  • Overdubbed in Chicago with additional musicians like Lafayette Leake and Phil Upchurch for added depth

🎤 Despite health challenges, Howlin’ Wolf delivered powerful performances that reaffirmed his status as a blues titan. The sessions were a bold attempt to introduce him to a new audience, and they succeeded in capturing his gritty essence with a fresh sonic backdrop.
